pH buffers are special solutions used for calibration. Why?

Because the characteristics of your electrode on your gas detector will change over time and this needs to be compensated for. The same goes for new electrodes that needs to be calibrated to get precise and consistent measurements.

When calibrating we always perform a two-point calibration using pH buffers as shown in the image. This method calibrates the gas detector at two different pH levels, enhancing the accuracy across the entire pH range.

  • pH 4 is used for the first point of calibration.
  • pH 10 is used for the second point of calibration.
  • PH 7 is used to verify the linearity of the calibration and can also serve as a ‘Bump Test’.
