Hazard pictograms
Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a colorless, odorless gas that is a natural component of Earth’s atmosphere. It is produced through the combustion of fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas.
Leaks of CO2 can pose problems in environments such as marine settings, biogas plants, distilleries, and breweries, as it can displace other gases like oxygen and create asphyxiation hazards. Initial symptoms of CO2 exposure include headache and rapid breathing. At high concentrations (over 200,000 ppm), exposure for just a few minutes can be fatal.
To avoid life-threatening risks associated with carbon dioxide, it is crucial to diligently follow safety procedures and guidelines.
