Methanol, also known as wood alcohol or methyl alcohol, is a chemical compound with the formula CH3OH. It is colorless with a sweet, pungent odor. Methanol can be produced through a chemical process known as catalytic synthesis from carbon monoxide and hydrogen. It can also be derived from wood, coal, and natural gas.

Methanol is typically used in marine applications and as a green fuel in Power-to-X technologies. The gas is also highly flammable at room temperature. Methanol is toxic to humans and wildlife, with common symptoms of exposure including irritation of the nose, mouth, and throat, as well as headache, nausea, vomiting, and blurred vision. Prolonged exposure can lead to unconsciousness.

Understanding these characteristics of methanol and acting proactively is crucial to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
