Dennis is conducting the semiannual service inspection at one of our customer’s sites, where they utilize the highly flammable propane gas!
Since propane is heavier than air, it sinks and settles near the floor. That’s why proper gas detector placement is crucial – which is why we’ve positioned our gas detector under the cabinet and close to the floor, where propane tends to accumulate. Hence, Dennis has crawled under the cabinet to perform a thorough service inspection.
If you, just like our customer, are working with propane, please consider adopting these safety practices to ensure the security of both you and your colleagues:
- Regular Inspections: Just like our hard-working technician, regular service inspections are a must. Ensuring gas detectors are functioning optimally is your first line of defense against potential leaks.
- Proper Ventilation: If using propane appliances indoors, ensure proper ventilation to prevent the buildup of gas. Adequate airflow helps disperse any potential leaks and maintains a safe environment.
- No Smoking Zone: Never smoke near propane storage or appliances. Propane is highly flammable, and even a small spark can lead to serious accidents.
- Stay Informed: Educate everyone at work about propane safety. Knowing the smell of propane (similar to rotten eggs) and understanding what to do in case of a leak are vital.
- Emergency Response: In case of a gas leak, evacuate immediately, leaving doors and windows open. Don’t use any electrical devices or light switches that could create a spark. Call emergency services and your propane supplier.
Ensure that you can check off all the aforementioned safety practices to maintain a secure workplace. If you’re uncertain, don’t hesitate to reach out to us for assistance.
