Gas under pressure Acute toxicity Corrosive Hazardous to the environment Toxic Corrosive

Ammonia is a chemical compound with the formula NH3. It is colorless with a sharp, unpleasant odor that irritates the eyes and nose. It is both toxic and corrosive, posing a potential health risk when inhaled at high concentrations.

Ammonia is widely used as a refrigerant in various workplaces, including industrial refrigeration systems, pharmaceutical companies, server rooms, cruise ship terminals, and power plants, as well as a green fuel in Power to X processes.

Ammonia can cause corrosion of the skin and mucous membranes as well as respiratory difficulties at high concentrations. Symptoms include burning sensations, coughing, and eye irritation. Extreme levels can be life-threatening, leading to pulmonary edema and even death.

Due to its toxic and corrosive properties, ammonia must be handled with care in all workplaces where it is used.
