Methane CH4

Flammable Gas under pressure Flammable

Methane is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas with the chemical formula CH4. It is highly flammable and is naturally produced through various processes, including the biological decomposition of organic material under anaerobic conditions.

Methane is found in significant amounts in both fossil fuels and biogas, which is why it is commonly encountered at waste treatment and biogas facilities. Additionally, methane can also be present at construction sites, distilleries, breweries, laboratories, pharmaceutical companies, and educational institutions. Since methane displaces oxygen in the air and can cause asphyxiation, symptoms of a methane leak may include dizziness, palpitations, nausea, vomiting, and unconsciousness.

Given these characteristics, it is crucial to prioritize safety and take necessary precautions when handling methane.
