Propane C3H8

Hazard pictograms

Flammable Gas under pressure Flammable

Propane is a highly flammable, colorless, and odorless gas with the chemical formula C₃H₈. It is a valuable energy source because it burns cleanly and produces relatively little pollution. It is commonly found in liquid form under pressure and is known as “liquefied petroleum gas” (LPG).

Propane is very flammable and displaces oxygen in the air. Leaks of propane can occur in cooling systems, power plants, laboratories, or educational institutions where it is used, for example, in physics labs. Inhalation of propane at very high concentrations can cause palpitations, headaches, fatigue, and even unconsciousness.

To avoid hazards associated with propane, it is crucial to follow safety procedures and guidelines carefully.
